Musicians have long played the fiddle music of Appalachia for years, but it was not until 1927 in Bristol, Tennessee as the first country music recording was signed a record deal. In that year, Victor Records signed Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter family.

Jimmie Rodgers was born in Meridian Mississippi, in 1897.
